THAMES HOSPITAL COMMITTEE:
The monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held yesterday at the Salutation Hotel, Mary-street, Mr Howe in the Chair. The minutes of last meeting were onfirmed. House Cojisihtee's Kepobd.—The report of the House Committee stated that there was little to report beyond the usual formal statement of the condition of the Hospital and its management, which was alike satisfactory to the Committee and flittering to its officors, Several trifling alterations had been mado with a view to-adding to the comfort of the female ward. The Committee had
examined the accounts for the month, and recommended them for payment. The report, on the* motion of Mr Sims, was read and adopted. ' • The hon. treasurer, Mr Renshaw, read the balance-sheet as folio svs:— Balancesheet for the month ending 3Lsb May, '1874. To balance, £256 8* sd; subscriptions, £37 Os '6d; donations, £14 18s; patients' oharges, £6 12s— £314 18i lid. By salaries, £59 13s 4d; maintenance, £60 3s lOd; medieal com-; forts, £2 Is 6dj furniture, £4 10s 3d printing and advertising, £2 17s 6d; commission, £L 16s 6i; miscellaneous expenses. 133 41;' balance at bank, £183 2s Bd-£31418a lid. Liabilities: Salaries. £52 7s 41; general, £55 7s 7d£l7 14s lid. Assets: Cash at bank, £183 2s 8d; Provincial Government subscription, £166 13s 4d-£349 16. Balance in baud, £242.1s Id. The balance-sheet was adopted, and the accounts passed for paym-nt. i; Horjsß Suboeos's Rbpost. — The House Surgeon's report was read and received. The Secretary read an apology for the absence of Mr Michael Rrearley,; which was received.-The Secretary then'read correspondence in reference to tHe death of the late George Withers, who had died in tho hospital. The correspondence included a letter to the {Secretary of the Hospital from the General Government Agent in Auckland, letter from .the \gent-Ueneral to the Colonial Sec■retary, and a letter 'from Thomas Withers, brother of deceased, «tating that he believed there was a will in existence.; The reply, of the Secretary-was to the effect that the death of George Withers was recorded in the books of the Hospital. He was in low circumstances, and his brother paid the funeral expenses, although he had difficulty in so doing. They had no knowledge of any effects, except some worthless scrip, and tuey knew nothing of any will.-The action of the Secretary was approved. '• ' "Hospital Officebs.—-Applieitions for the various.offices in the Hospital; were opened. For Cook there were two applications -Kleanor, Thulis and ; Mark fytton-.—.Vtr Tyler moved that the latter application be accepted.— Ihe Ke'v. .VI r Lush seconded the motion, which was carried.—For the office of house-surgeon there was only one applicalim, that of the present surgeon, Dr. C. F. Lothbridge, and on the motion of .Vlr Gudgeon, secouded by Mr Macnab, Dr. Letbbridge was re-elected, There was only one applicant for the .office of ■dispenser, ttiat of .Mr Aickan, wuo was re-appointed on the motion of Mr fyl-.r, seconded by the Rev. Father Lonergan. Mr E. Honiss was the only applicant for the offic i of Secretary and Collector, aud he was re-appointed. Mr Renshaw sad that it had previously been mooted th-it the moneys upon which the Secretary was to get commission shoull be limited, as in the casj of legac es.-U'he Chairman agreed with this view —Vlr l'yler thought this came toj late, as they had made an appointment.—Mr Kens'iaw said that he thought the Secretary was quite willing to have the alteration.: He would mjve that the Secretary's salary be as heretofore. £30 per annum and 5 per cent, on all moneys received except Government money and legacies over £10. It was suggested that this might be included in the motijn regarding the appointment,.but Mr Sims, the mover, tliought the Secretary shoul i have 1 or l| per cent, on legacies. The Kev. J. Crump thought as legacies were fikely Ito be few, it would be much better to have these special cases left to the com nittee and the secretary. The appointment with Mr Renshaw's addition was finally m jved and carried ' unaui- 1 moujly.-The, Kev.y.-Lush: asked'what the cost of these advertisements were.— .Vlr Renshaw said 305.-Mr Lush said it was, he thought, a waste of money. Supplies.-Tenders for supplies for the;ensning half-year were then opened, and the following tenders were adopted : —'traceries, Hewin and Co (there were only two tenders); butchers'meat (two tenders) that of Mr George Dalziji was accepted; brcal(one tender), liollerson and Son accepted; milk (one tender), Thomas Dufty; washing (t*vo tenders), MrSuelgar; funerals (one tender), John Grigg,
