(Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Press Agency.) —♦ • Wellington, Tuesday, la tho General Synod it was agreed, on the motion of Mr Sewell, that the Synod, in the exercise of its undoubted authority, having, carefully examined the circumstances under which Dr. Jenner claims to be regarded as having been the first Bishop of Duaedin, declares that Dr. Jennor, not haviug been appointed to the See of Dunedin in accordance with the laws of the Church of New Zealand, ought not to be recognised as having been the first Bishop, and this Synod doth hereby recognise the Kov. Samuel Tarratt Neville, D.D., as the present and first Bishop of the See of Dunedin.— £25 have been subscribed for the crew of the' South fisk,' to buy them clothes. A subscription list has also been started for the captain annugst the mister mariners. —The remains of a wreck and 'two boats were sold to-day by auction for £15.The Opera Company was well received. -Mr MoKirdy, of Wellington, ii the successful tenderer for the Mungaroa contract of the Masterton line, at £55,000. The contract is for the formation only of eight miles of very heavy cutting, including two tunnels. There, were eight unsuccessful tenderers, tho highest reaching over £80,000. — Ilia first number of the New Zealand Tintss, with which is incorporated the Wellington Independent, appeared this morning in ne.w-type.—The Government hare adTices of the sale in London of £672,000 of 'l\ per cent, debentures, nominally at £9tV but with allowances fjr interest whjcb. reduce the price to £98 9s sd. This is part of the one-and-a-half million that has been offered.for sale. The balanceis to be sold at the same price.
