(Per Anglo-Australian Telegraph Press Ageney.) *— '■ — Auckland, Thursday. Forty-eight of the ' DoretteY iiuinigranls proceeded to Poverty Bay to-day. An order here for as many more cannot be supplied.—The Margaretta Gold Mining Company (Ooromandel)- meeting of shareholders was held to-day. They proceed to the Thames on Saturday week.—The Alburnia Gold Mining Company's meeting of shareholders wbb held to-day. The report stated that when Mr Higgins took charge of the ground that the levels then opened appeared to have been exhausted of payable stone, but shortly afterwards an entirely new leader was found in the intermediate level which was worked upon and tested, with a payable yield. Operations were immediately commenced on this, and hid been continued up to the present time with satisfactory results. Another new lode had within the last month been discovered by Mr Hall at the lowest level, gold-bearing, intact to the surface. In addition to the new lodes, the present manager has cleared out some old drives, and has been rewarded for his trouble by finding several blocks of ground standing, from which ho expects payable returns. Tho mine may now be said to be in thoroughly good working order, and the same may be said with regard to the battery. Mr Hall's report explained what had been done with a view to working the ground from the Whau drive. The directors regret the result, but as there is likely to be an abundanco of crushing stuff obtained in their own levels,, they could afford to wait for a more favourable time to ronow the negotiations. The directors see the necessity of contributing a fair share of the cost of extending tlie Sons of Freedom tunnel, which would give backs of 380 feet to the Alburnia; but they did not feel warranted in incurring tho expense while the company was in debt. Should the good results expected from their own workings be realised, the directors will contribute a share to this important work. Owing to the continued dry weather, the compauy's battery had been idle almost since tho summer commenced. A large quantity of stone had now accumulated, and when rain comes continuous crushing will be carried on. Arrangements had been made with Dixon's No. 1 and tho Hose and Shamrock companies for the use of their level for the purpose of working that side of the mine, the quartz from which will be crushed at tho Ballarat and Clunes machine. The combined force of' the two batteries will be required for' this company, and the directors feel assured that the results will be most satisfactory. The balance-sheet showed:— .Receipts from gold, £5,756; premium on sale of shares, £41; balance to new account, £2,832 j total, £8,6319s lOd.
