The jury found her guilty of, concealment of birth. She was only sentenced to nine months' imprisonment. The returns for Franklin so far make: - May, 118; Goodfellow, 116; Troup, 98. -r-The 'Olio' from New Caledonia reports trade there brisk. Flour (scarce), £24 10s; timber, overstocked, The mines are progressing favourably.—A hurricane occurred at Norfolk Island damaging plantations, fences, and buildings. A church was blown down. Three or four hundred pine trees, some 25 to 30 feet in circumference) were torn out by the root 3 and hurled like sticks before the storm. There was a tremendous sea. The road from the landing-place at the Cascade is strewed with wrecks, supposed to be; the 'Diebofc' and 'Mary
Ann.' The embankment facing the sea is "utterly destroyed.—Arrived: The s.s. 'Paterson.' Alexandra, Friday. A telegram received to-day states that Eewi remains at Kopua. City of Auckland obtained 401bs of specimens from tho winze ,to-day. They cut a new leader, 18 inches wide, at 190 feet in the old road level.—The Pacific got a few specimens yesterday from the surface stope. They commence crushing on Monday.—Union Beach, nothing important.—Tokatea, 60ozs retorted gold for the fortnight's crushing. / Tatjbancu, Friday. The Colonial Government steamer 'Luna' arrived here at 3 o'clock this afternoon, and leaves again for the South at 10 o'clock this evening.
