ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. 'MONGOL.
(Per Anglo-Australian Press Telegraph Agoncy.) •.. ■ -6 Auckland, Wednesday, 8 a.m. : The' Mongol' has arrived without the mail, the' (Jity of Melbourne' not havir % connected at Kandavu.—The' Macgregor' is still at Kandavu, being pumped night and day.—The cause of the non-arrival of the' City of Melbourne' is unknown. —The s.s.' Mongol' made the outward passage to Kandavu in 3 days 22 hours. —The' Tartar' arrived from Sydney on the 22nd, and sailed with passengers and mails for San Francisco same night. On the 26th, the ' City of Melbourne' not arriving, the captain of the ' Mongol' left again for Auckland, in order to be in lime to . take the next outward mail. The 'Star of the South' will probably king on'the New Zealand mails on the arrival of the' City of Melbourne' at jKandavu, The ' Mongol I sailed to. return on the 27th at 6 p.m., and arrived at 1.30. The 'Maogregor' is muoh. more damaged than was reported by the ' Marion Benny.' Numbers of her plates are completely riddled. The keel is carried away from the foot of the foremast to the stern. It is intended, on the return of the ' Mon? gol,' to lighten her as much as possible, and build a cofferdam over the injured parts, after which the' Mongol' will take her "to Sydney. " • ' --■;•' -
AEBIVAL OP THE S.S. 'CITY OF i MELBOUME.' Auckland, Wednesday, 10.40 a.m, The 8.8, * City of Melbourne' has arrived, with the San Francisco mails. She left San Francisco on the 7th, and arrived at Honolulu, in eight days. She left again 24 hours afterwards, and reached Kandavu'in 10 days 12 hours, but had to wait till daylight before entering. Found the s.s. 'Mongol' had been gone 19 hours, and left at once for Auckland. Arrived here after a smart passage of 3 days 22 hours. The transmission of the Australian mails across America was delayed by a snow blockade. ■' Passengers :—For Dunedin: Messrs Woodville and McLaren; for Canterbury: L. B. Nathan. She also brings a number of passengers for Sydney.and Aupkland, but no cargo. 'pilraws. A terrible canoe accident occured at Kow, by which 69 natives lost their lives, most of thorn being devourod by sharks, while attempting to reach tho shore. A memorial, signed by SOO white resi'dents, has been presented to Consul layard, requesting him to take on himself the magisterial functions, and Administer the legal affairs of the while population.
