RATAPIKO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 19.—The weather has again taken up so as to allow of chaff cutting in tho district. Mr. Tuny with his traction engine and chaff cutter, is at present cutting for Mr. Angus Frasor, who has some of the best crops of oaten sheaves, and it should turn out a first-class sample of chaff, as it was harvested in good order. Biesiek Bros, also should have a good sample of chaff when cut. It is quite a now thing for a traction engine to bo in this part of tho district, but tho time is not far distant when one of our moro enterprising settlers will go in for one on his own account, as tho settlers round about are going in for growing moro oats and other grain. Easter Monday found very few residents at homo, all having put aside their working clothes and donned their Sunday best, and made their way to tho place where the Tariki Sawmill Sports were hold, and had a good time, and a much better one at the dance at night, which is a thing that most of tho young and a good many old friends have greatly enjoy. I believe tho school inspector, in his report, said that tho class room was.overcrowded, and I should think it was, as tho room is about 20ft by 10ft, and there are 36 small children in it. 1 believe tho board intends to shift a partition, but they are very slow in doing it. The time for the election of new committees is drawing near now, and I hope to see a good number of householders present at the meeting on Monday night, and take an interest in their school, and not to allow the burden of work to fall on a few- willing ones, as the case usually is. Tho school can boast of a good mistress and assistant in Mrs. Wilson and Miss Wells, and it is up to every one with a family to take an interest in the school. Our creamery manager is making very slow work of his stone breaking. I am beginning to think that he has a touch of tho Government stroke, or is making the job hang out until something else turns up that he can have a cut at.
