A poll was taken to-day on the question of the formation of a portion of the Waimairi County into the borough of Fendalton, and resulted in the proposal being agreed to by 149 to 139. A MISSING PRISONER. INVERCARGILL,-April 20. Tho search for the prisoner Christie, who jumped from a train near Woodlands on the 12th instant, has so far been absolutely resultless. The police throughout the district, and indeed throughout the Dominion, are on the look-out. BORROWING AN UMBRELLA. GISBORNE, April 21. , Yesterday afternoon John Keogh entered St. Mary’s Presbytery and stole Father Lane’s umbrella. He pleaded guilty to-day and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
