AWAKING.

THE COUNTY QUESTION. (Special to Herald.) AWAKING, April 21. At a well attended public meeting held at Awakino on the 19th inst. to consider the advisability or otherwise of bringing the district under the County Councils Act, a long discussion for and against took place. It was, generally conceded that the present time was not opportune for so considerable a change, and on the motion of a representative from Mahoenui it was resolved that pending the receipt of further information the matter should stand over, and that a committee be elected to mane ton inquiries re the working of the Act and the position of the Awakino county in relation to the Act. This was carried almost unanimously. Messrs. W. D. Thomson, C, Leech, and W. F. Kelly were elected to act on the committee. Mr .W. D. Thomson occupied tne cnair. chair.
