Councillor Thomson has been appointed to represent the Stratford County Council at the official opening of the Eltham gas works and town hall. Mr. J. M'Cluggago has been elected unopposed representative of the Stratford and Whangamomona Counties on the New Plymouth Harbour Board. 'The' Archbishop of York officiated at tho wedding of tho Margins of Linlithgow to Miss Milner. King-George and Queen Mary gave them a large silver loving cup.—Press Association.
Professor Gilruth, of Melbourne University, late head of tho Veterinary Department in New Zealand, is to bo one of the scientific party sent by tho Federal Government to report on tho Northern Territory. Old bowlers will regret to hoar of the death of Mr. William Gorrio, a former president of tho Northern Bowling Association and Auckland Bowling Club. He was bom at Bussell, Bay of Islands, seventy years ago, and-for tho last forty years was an active member of the firm of Upton and Co.
The following resolution was passed by the Taranaki Land Board at its adjourned meeting yesterday ;—‘Tbat this board desires to place on record its appreciation of the services of F. Simpson, Esq., while Commissioner of Crown Lands, and regrets that his time has expired, and would beg him to accept the hearty good wishes of its members for his future prosperity and happiness and its desire that his health may soon bo restored.” Archdeacon Crossloy, the Bishop-elect of Auckland, is announced to leave Melbourne for his prospective diocese next week. He preached / his farewell sermons at All Saint’s, St. Hilda, on Easter Sunday, and was entertained at a farewell garden party, given by Doan Stephen, on Monday afternoon in the grounds of St. John’s College, East St, Hilda. The consecration of Archdeacon Crossley to the see of Auckland has been, fixed for St. Mark’s Day (April 25).
