PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION.

By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.

LONDON, Jan. 30. At Mr. Keir Hardies instance tho British Labour tarty resolved that tho executive ask the Labour and Socialise organisations of the, , Empire whether they favour the holding ,of ah all-Bri-tish labour conference in, 1910, to consider matters of interest common to the working-class in all parts, and to vjrocecd to make arrangements if the replies are in the affirmative. Mr. Kefr Hardie dwelt on the- success of Labour in the politics of tho Commonwealth of Australia, and added: "Now that Labour has come into its own, it appears to us desirable to get a closer relationship with comrades throughout the Empire in respect to all matters appertaining to the welfare of the people." - r A resolution' to prevent members or candidates of the* Labour Party appearing on the same platform as members of the capitalist parties was negatived by a large -majority; The resolution led to stormy altercations between, Messrs. Ben Tillefc and Quelch on the one hand and Messrs. Ramsay Macdona'ld, Shacklcton, and Henderson on tho other.

The next conference will be held at Newport (Mon.). At the conference at Portsmouth a small majority resolved m favour of socialistic means of production and .distribution,, and complete emancipation of labour from the domination of capitalism and landlordism. It was also resolved by a large majority to favour the abolition of tho half-time system, and raising the school age to 16, and instituting secular education. 1 The conference largely rejected a motion providing for the' State maintenance of school children, but, agreed on the necessity of medical inspection and the compulsory feeding of school children.
