LAND ADMINISTRATION.
SMALL GRAZING RUNS.
Per Press Association.
GISBORNE, Jan. 30.
.Replying to' a deputation of runhqlders 4 on the question of small grazing i*utiff, the Premier deprecated the suggestion that the Government had looked* at; 'tlie niatter from a political aspect. y'An attempt had been made to influence a Southern constituency adversely to the Government over this matter. Such • conduct he regarded with supreme contempt. If the Government, in settling lands in the interest of the country, was to consider what political views persons interested hold, he for one would not be a member of the Government. He announced that in regard to seyeral runs which had been mentioned, the Government had decided' to allow lessees to retain possession of the land they had brought from a wild; state to its presont condition. -A settlement of the other cases would be carefully considered on their merits. This announcement was received with expressions of approval.
