RELATIONS WITH M. FAURE.
In the Chamber of Deputies the afiair is being excitedly discussed by politicians of all shades, and the names of Mme. Steinheil and the late M. Felix Faure, once President ot the French Republic, are on everybody's lips. For it is an open secret that Mme. Steinheil was the late President's mistress. She was in his study on the memorable night uhen he died suddenly of apoplexy. It is declared that the late M. Steinheil was well aware of this liaison, but tolerated it because it was a source of profit to himself. He painted M. Felix Fan re's portrait, which was purchased by tinState for £1200. He was received at the ftlysoe with his wite. M. Faure also recommended him to his friends as a painter of genius, whereas he had but an elementary knowledge of his a rt .
Mariette Wollf. the aged servant of the Steinheils. declares that from making a secret of her relations with the late President. Felix Faure. Mme. Steinheil Has proud of them. "We wept much for the poor President." Mid Mariette. "While lie v ;is the iriend of madame we rolled in money!"
