CASE OF POISONING.

A case of poisoning occurred yesterday morning in Grahamstown, which, however, was fortunately not attended with serious consequences. It seems that a man named Cornelius Bryan, who resides in upper Pollen-street, was found yester day about noon suffering from the effects of poisou. Dr. Merrett was called in, uud he ordered the man to be sent to the Hospital immediately. Bryan’s own account of the matter is that lie, on luesday, purchased some rat poison at Mr Hall’s shop for the purpose of poisoning some rats. This poison he mixed in water and laid on the table, intending to put it on some bread, but be fell asleep on the bed. After a couple of hours he awoke, and, feeling thirsty, put some cold tea in the cup, forgetting the poison, and drank it off. This made lain very sick, and he suffered great pain. His wife (who is not living with him at present) went to the house about noon yesterday, and found him lying ill- She states that Bryan told her when she first went in that he had tried to poison himself but this he himself denies When buying the poison he asked if it would hurt ctiildren, and was told that it would do so and to be careful of it. Bryan is, we believe, an old soldier, and in receipt of a pension. He had been drinking for a day or two before the accident (if such it bo) happened.
