The following is a return showing the various amounts paid by the General Government to the newspapers in the colony for advertising and printing during the financial year 1871-72 -
—Auckland Evening. Star*[By the above return of the amounts paid by the General Government to the newspapers in the Colony during the financial year 1871-72, it will be seen that tlie Thames Advertiser's account was £B9 3s 6d ; the Guardian’s, £7 17s 6d ; and the Evening Star's, £3B 19s 6d. Our morning contemporary’s virtuous indignation in reference to the small amount of Government patronage received was rather uncalled for.—Ed.]
