PHILARMONIC SOCIETY.

To the Editor of the Thames Gi'AimiAx. Sir, —What, has become of the above Society? Being “in connection with the Mechanic’s Institute,” I fully expected that they would have “ discoursed sweet music” at the opening of the E .hibition, last night ; hut such was not the case, although I am given to understand that all its members would have been most happy to have taken part. And what about its Quarterly Conceits ? According to the rules of the society they are to ho given for the be icfit of its subscribers, who naturally are expecting something for their money, and who see no signs of getting value received. Then the Instrumental Band (Query, where). The whole affair seems to he in a fog, and the sooner it is cleared off the better, as there is plenty of musical talent on the Thames to form Doth a vocal and an instrumental society, or both combined ; and that too, which need be inferior to none in the province, if only conducted by proper management. — I am, &c., X.Y.Z.
