COROMANDEL.
(From yesterday’s Mail.) Thk retorting for the Tokatea for the week took place at the Wliakaroa Butery on Tuesday evening. About 95 tons had been put through, which gave the handsome yield of IGOoz of retorted gold. Du ing the last few days the stuff is shaping much better on the plates. A commencement has been made towards the erection and completion of a onestamper battery for treating tin large quantity of specimens and picke 1 stone on baud, and which amount iB daily increasing. The tramway to the low level is nearly completed, when stuff will lie forwarded from the stacked pa dock. The ground is still being taken out in the upper level, and the country settling down. The water is still coming in freely in the low level workings, and the country somewhat more of a shooting character. Mr Graham was engaged during our visit making a survey to enable tinmanager to start a rise to meet the No. 2 winze. The numt>er of hands will be increased in the course of a few nays, and when stoping from the low level is commenced, the quantity of stuff available from the battery will be both good and continuous. We have been informed by one of the directors of the Waikommiko goldtniniug company that a report has been received from the mine manager, Mr Buyley, informing the Board of the cutting of a gold-bearing leader in the low level workings. A few accounts of this nature would stimulate miners to go more largely i .to mining speculations in the Waikoroniiko district. Operations in the upper level of the Royal Oak are in progress. The leader appears to be increasing in width, but is rather broken at present. A few pieces of stone taken from the leader showed a little gold. The number of bauds has been lessened, and tile amount of work in consequence is rather limited. The crushing for the Golconda company is being continued at the Lynch’s Flat battery from the Nos. 1 and 2 leaders. It is shaping veiy well. Thirty-eight ounces of hard squeezed amalgam have been taken possession of by the manager from the crushing for Monday and Tuesday.
