Instantanious light-giver.—To obtaiu light instanfly, without the use of matches and without danger of setting anything on fire: —Take an oblong phial of the whitest and purestglass ; put into it a piece of phosphorus about the size of a pea,on which pour some olive oil, heatc-d to the boiling point of water, filling the phial about one third full, aud then fit in an air-tight cork- To use the phial, remove the cork and allow the air to enter, then recork. The whole empty space in the bottle will immediatley l ecome luminous, and the light obtained will be almost as good as that of a lamp. When the light gets weak, admit more air.
