(From Saturday’s “ Star.”) In the House to-day, Ormond said that the Government intended to examine into the requirements and capabilities of the Thames Goldfield. The low level scheme was adopted, and £40,000 would be expended in this direction on the Goldfield. In the House last night, the Life Assurance Bill made progress in committee. The motion for a Select Committee to inquire into and report upon the establishment of a Mint was withdrawn after a discussion. Vogel said the expense would more than counterbalance the benefits. The discussion on the motion for the reduction of the gold duty lias been adjourned until Wednesday week. In the discussion on the motion for a return of the immigrants, O’Rorke referred to the neglect, by the AgentGeneral, of Ireland as a field for emigration. Ormond said the Agent-General had written in the commencement of April that 2000 immigrants had started from various parts in the United Kingdom.
