CONCERT AT THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC.

A musical soiree was held at (lie above Hall last night in aid of the fund of the Wesleyan Church, Grahamstown. The first part of the programme consisted of sacred music and addresses. The anthems were rendered by the members of the Grahamstown Church and the Glee Singers, aud were remarkably’ well done, liotli as regards time and execution. Addresses were delivered by the Rev. J. Boiler, Rev Mr Jones, and Mr C. Fletcher. Oil the conclusion of the first part an adjournment was made to MrCurtis’ dining-room, where an ample supply of refreshments were laid out, and were partaken of with great gusto by those present. After all were satisfied the second part of the programme was started on. “ Hail Smiling Morn ” by the company was the first selection, and was very much admired. Miss Priscella Rowe then snug “Thy voice is near” beautifully, and was rapturously encored. “ Come where my love lies dreaming” was sung by the Glee Singers, Mr White taking the solo. “ Kiss me mother ere I die.” solo by Mr Trewheela, and chorus by the same party. Both of these were effectively rendered, and in a style far better than we are accustomed to hear amateurs perform in. “Aura Lee,” by Mr Catarin, with chorus, was equally as good. Miss Kay sang “ Footsteps on the stairs,” and was rapturously encored, and certainly deserved to he so, as she sang very nicely- “ Spring’s Delights ” and “Annie of the Vale” by the Glee Singers were both treats, and were very perfectly sung. “ Life’s a bumper,” by the chorus, was last on the programme. Before singing the “ National Anthem,” Mr Bidler called on Mr J. Fletcher to propose a vote of thanks to those who had so kindly come forward to entertain thorn during the evening. This Mr Fletcher did, and the motion was seconded by Mr Nodder, and carried Ly acclamation. The whole audience then stood up and sang “ God Save the Queen,” after which they dispersed.
