PERMISSIVE BILL COMMITTEE.
The committee met on Monday eveuiug, in th« Iv-iraka Schoolroom, to close the business of the preseat petition. ■•--The Kev. 13. C. Builaud occupied the chair. The secretary read a copy of the letter he would send to (J. O’Neill, *Esq., requesting his support in favour of the bill, and explaining why the petition was v not sent to him for presentation. The report of the canvassers showed that, although owing to the lateness of commencing the canvass, and the inclement Weather, 1,952 persons nad been asked to sign the petition, with the following result ; 44 opponents, BUB neutrals, I,GOO in favour. Alter several accounts .were paid, a hearty vote ul thanks was passed lo the secretary, Mr K. French, lor the tllicieut manner in winch he had discharged Iris duties ; also lo the treasurer, Mr J. Kurmck, and those gentlemen who volunteered as canvassers. The meeting thou adjourned until called by the secretary.
