Wellington, 7.25 p.m. Mr John Hall has joined the Cabinet with office, resigned his sent in the House of Representatives, and taken his seat in the Legislative Council. A new Writ has been issued for
Heatlicote. It ia understood tliat the Hon. J. Miller will also join the Cabinet, without nffi'-e, on his arrival from Otago, and assist Mr Hall. In reply to the Chief Parata, the Hon. Mr McLean, to-day, stated that the Government intended shortly to call two members of the native race to the Legislative Council. The Sharebrokers’ Amendment Bill was read for a second time, The Auckland Waste Lands Bill, Highway Boards Empowering Bill, and the Auckland Mineral Leases Bill were introduced. The Hon. Mr Vogel promised to amend the Distillation Act, so as to allow Innkeepers to brew on their own premises.
GREAT RAINFALLS AT NELSON. - WRECK OF THE ALICE CAMERON.
NELSON. There have been great rainfalls during the week; BH2 inches have fallen since Monday. The approaches to the bridge are damaged. The gale caused a tremendous sea on the bar. NAPIER. The Auckland barque Alice Cameron was wrecked at Poraugahau. It is expected that the cargo will be saved. The Star of of the South has sailed for the Thames. TIMARU. At a meeting at Timaru to-night resolutions were carried endorsing the action of the Board in the gift of Rangitata bridge. A general amendment of disapproval was rejected.
