THEATRE ROYAL.

Mr Hoskins took a benefit at the Theatre Royal last night, and in ppite of the jjncleinency of the weather, a large and appreciative audience were present to- witness his impersonation of '• Hamlet.” We must say that the piece went very smoothly throughout, everyone being well read in their respective parts. Mr Hoskins’ rendering of “ Hamlet'’ is certainly one of the best we have ever seen in the colony, and last night he was as good as ever. Mr Keogh played the King very creditably indeed, aud the Queen of Denmark was playeu by Miss Colyille in such a iiiatinei as to surprise us, and which shows the great versatility of lier powers as a most accomplished actress. As Ophelia, •Mrs Hill was indeed good, her rendering of the mad scene being as finished a piece of acting as we have seen thisjlady do. The Ghost was played-by Air Perrier, ana from the manner in which lie reudered it no one would have imagined was an amateur. He has evidently most carefully studied the character, and in a goud school. Laertes found a most able representative in Mr B. N. Jones, and the otlier pans were all well filled, the tragedy being a great success throughout. We had almost forgotten Mr Joyce, who shone brightly as a pri.ice of *• gravediggers.” The performance 1 concluded with the “ Painters Illusion,” and a Spanish dance by Madame Therese aud Monsieur Schmidt, who are proficient in the art o£ dancing. 10-night, New Men and Old Acies and the “ can Cau” are announced for to-iiight.
