VOLUNTEERING.

No. 1 Royals and the Thames Riiie Rangers assembled in the Volunteer Hall last evening. Both companies mustered well, it being the monthly inspection of the Rangers, which company was duly inspected by Major Cooper, and afterwards adjourned for the purpose of holding a meeting for the election of a captain, etc. No. 1 Royals were drilled in company drill by Color-Sergeant Noonan, and afterwards drilled in the bayonet exercise by Se rgea n t - M ajo r G ran t. VOLUNTEERS TO TURN OUT IN CASE OF Fire. —Major Cooper stated that in future tlie companies would be told off for lire, and district ord-rs to that effect would shortly be issued. In the meantime, No. 1 Royals were ordered to muster at the Volunteer Hall in case of emergency, with caps only, and not in full uniform, to give assistance, etc. THAMES RIFLE RANGERS. A meeting of the above company was held in the Camden Hotel, directly after Major Cooper had inspected them, for tho purpose of electing a Captain. Alter some company business hail been disposed of, Lieutenant Rak proposed that Captain Howell be elected to command the company. This was seconded by Sergeant Scorr, and carried unanimously, amidst great cheering. Captain Howell, N.Z.M., was then declared duly elected to be Captain of the riiau es liiH • Rangers. Aft-r tne new Captain had taken the. chair, he warmly thanked the members for the honour conferred on him. The meeting then broke up.
