COROMANDEL MINING NEWS.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Waikoromike : This Company ligve been prospecting the strike of tln ir leader some distance from their original workings, and appear to have got gold wherever it has been tried. A meeting of directors was held on Thursday night, and it was decided to appoint a manager, and put in a lower level at once. The Neptune have taken about 20 tons of stone to the Nil Desperandum Battery. It will be operated upon on Tuesday. A good result is expected. The Royal Oak commenced crushing to day. This stone has all been stoped from where the rich specimens were obtained. Golden Point: The lower level is now in 100 feet. At 70 feet a cross drive was

opened out on the specimen leader, and is being followed iu. In the middle level 154 feet in the country is very easy. Several stringers have been cut in driving showing a little gold. Scotty’s Hill continued their drive to push up the old leader that gave such good results.

Paul’s Creek have just commenced an upper level to intersect the large reef running across the spur. The manager expects to get it in a week s time. The small specimen leader is still being followed in the upper level, and it is expected a cross leader will join it soon. Some very good stoue has been taken from this. The Pauline have their main tunnel in 150 feet. At i3O feet a cross-cut has been put in 50 feet, and several small veins cut. On the opposite side of the hill another drive is going in to intersect the large reef seen ou the surface in the Paul’s Creek Company. The Great Northern are continuing their tunnel, and taking out quartz from the leader running with them. They will crush at Bennett’s battery. When it it is finished they expect a fair return. The Margan tta have their lower level in now 116 feet, and expect to cut the Tokatea lender in 35 feet further driving Yuba: The contract for 50(J feet of driving has been let for 12s 6d per foot, and the contractor starts at once. Bennett’s Battery have got most of their timber, and are now excavating the foundation for the machine. The masonry is being pushed on rapidly, ami will shortly be finished. Wood’s Point have Igt a contract for 100 feet of driving. The contractors start next week. ♦ The Working Miners arc going on sloping out, and are preparing to put men on to keep the battery going when they commence crushing. The lower level will be pushed on by the contractors with three shifts of men, and one shift fitting timber, so as to expedite the work. The boulders forming the old watercourse —the last one 7ft. sin.x 4ft.—was got clown, and buried in the drive. Henceforth they will be able to get along. Golden Pah : The contractors having finished sinking the. shaft GO feet, and now going on a little lump, and will open out directly at 60 feet. The winze in the cross-drive is now down 15 feet, and the leader taken with them. Some very nice gold is seen daily.

The Golconda are continuing No. 2 tunnel at the face; the ground is very soft. They are now in 229 feet, and expect to meet the drive coming from the winze into the No. 1 tunnel.
