(from our own correspondent) MEETING OF hED QUEEN G.M.C. MEETING OF EVENING STAR G.M.C. THE NEVADA. DEPARTURE OF MEMBERS FOR WELLINGTON. THE SH A REMARKET. Auckland, Friday, 8 p.rn. The mail steamer Nevada will not leave till to-morrow morning. She takes a large number of passengers, The s.s. Keera arrived in the Mannkau from Wanganui this morning, bringing a cargo of 40 head cattle, 460 sheep, and sundries. Passengers : Mrs Bowden, Mpsri'B Baxter, Brewer, Crazier, and Johnstone. The half-yearly meeting of the shareholders of the Red Queen G.M.C. was held to-day. The balance-sheet shows— Receipts : Balance in bank, January 1, L 66 14s; gold, L 363 3s 4d ; calls, L6OO 10s 8d ; fees, L2 4s 4d ; fines, L 32 15s. Total, L 1,065 7s 4d. Expenditure : Wages, L 543 Is; contracts, L 197 10s ; sundry accounts, L 256 9s lOd ; overpaid calls refunded, L 7 19s ; balance at bank, L6O 7s 6d. Total, L 1,065 7s 4d.—The balance-sheet as read, and the mine manager’s report, were adopted. The followinggentlemen were elected directors for the ensuing year:—Messrs S. Cochrane, J. Warmoll, and T. L. White. Great excitement here on the news being made known that the small-pox has spread to Victoria through the Nebraska. The following passengers proceed South by the Luna on Sunday :—Mr and Mrs G. M. O’Rorke, Mrs and Miss Williamson, Mr and Mrs McLeod and family, Mr W. Swanson, Mr and Miss O’Neill, Mr R. J. Creighton, Mr J. Kelly, Mr Taylor, M.L.A., Mr J. Sheehan.
A meeting of the late shareholders of the Evening Star Goldmining Company was held to-day, the business being to take into consideration the action of the Official Liquidator. After considerable discussion, it was resolved to employ counsel to resist the demand for the last call, and to cause Mr Walker to give an account of the expenses incurred and expenditure made since the winding-up order was granted. William A. Morton, late Inspector of Police at Otago, died at the Asylum today, from exhaustion, alter extremely violent attacks of dementia. Gardner's house on the wharf has been thrown open to-day, and people are going in and out doing business. The sbareinarket continues quiet.
