THE NEVADA’S TRIP FROM WELLINGTON.

The mail steamship Nevada arrived in harbour last evening from Southern ports, after a stormy passage. Capt. Blethen reports having left Port Chalmers on 4th July at 2 p.m.; Lyttelton sth, at 1 p.m.; Wellington 7th, at 2 p.m., for Napier. Wind, S.W., light; at 6 p.m. increased to a gale ; at 8 a.in., blowing a hurricane. Put ship’s head to wind, a very high sea running. Remained head to wind all night and next day. The gale continuing, abandoned all attempts at making Napier, and putting ship before the gale, ran for Auckland, the gale continuing until the night of the 10th, when it subsided. Since then had pleasant weather. The ship received a terrible pounding during the three days’ gale, which fairly tried her. coining out of it with hull intact. We are indebted to Mr Alley, the purser, for our files and other favours. The following address was presented to Captain Blethen by the passengers, on the arrival of the Nevada last evening : “ P.s. Nevada, Port of Auckland, July 13, 1872. —To Captain Blethcu.—Dear Sir, —Wo beg to congratulate you upon the safe arrival of this vessel in port, after the unusually severe weather we have experienced during thh last three days; a result which might have been otherwise but for the excellent si-a qualities of' the Nevada, which have been well tested iu lhe late unparalleled storm. We also wish to tender to you, and through you o your officers, our marked appreciation of the unremitting care and sleepless itteiition that have been bestowed upon the safety ot the ship iu a season of considerable danger ; and our thanks for the manner in which the comfort of the passengers was provided throughout the whole trying time.— We remain, dear sir, very faithfully yours, &c.” [Here follow the signatures.]— Cross.
