The half-yearly meeting of the shareholders of the Albion Gold Mining Company was held at the Insurance Building to-day. Mr T. Russell in the chair. The The directors’ report was read and adopted. The following is the report and balance-sheet:— The second report of the Directors of the Albion Quartz Mining Company Limited. The Directors’ report for the information of the shareholders, that immediately after their election they gave their earnest attention to the works necessary for the development of the company’s property. The chief object of the enterprise being to cut the Caledonian reef, so ns to work it in the company’s ground, it became necessary to sink a main shaft. No suitable site for such a shaft could be got on the company’s own ground, but, after much delay and trouble, and an expenditure of upwards of eight hundred pounds, the directors succeeded in securing an eligible site for the shaft, and they have succeeded, without pumps, in sinking it to a depth of 193 feet. Pumps are now being prepared, aud the directors hope that in a few weeks the mine manager will be enabled to resume this important work, which the directors intend to press forward with all possible speed. The directors have instructed the mine manager to drive from the bottom of the shaft into the Poveity and Charleston part of the mine so as to cut these reefs ; from the level of this drive to the tribute boundary the company will have a block of about 150 feet or more in height. This block may be let on tribute or worked on the company’s account, as may be deemed most advisable.—For the directors, T. Russell, Chairman. Auckland, June 28th, 1872. mine manager’s report. I have the honor to report for the information of Shareholders that since taking charge of this Company’s practical operations in September last, the engine shaft has been sunk to a depth of 193 feet 8 inches. At this point an increase in the flow of water prevented our sinking further. Engine, &c.—A 40 horse-power horizontal high-pressure engine, with boiler, winding gear, &c., has been erected, and is now in working order. PoppetHeads and tram-road to Beach.—These have been erected. The former is in active work : the latter only requiring to be laid with iron tram-rails. Air Machines.—A
; powerful fan has been erected, and air pipes fixed in shaft for ventilating purposes, and ecpelling foul gases. The whole of the above, with various other minor arrangements, is in complete working order. Chamber. —A chamber is being now formed in the engine-shaft, at a depth of 188 feet, and from which it is proposed to drive a cross-cut to intersect 1 the various leaders in the Company’s proI perty. Future operations at Engine Shaft:—‘ln order to be fully prepared for sinking this shaft to the required depth to strike the Caledonian reef it will be necessary to procure and fix pumps and pumping gear These I have estimated will cost £BOO to purchase and fix complete. —I am, &c. S. E. Richards. June 24th, 1872. Balance Sheet of the Albion Quartz Mining Company (Limited).

Green Harp, £5 10s ; Nonpareil, 45s ; Moanataiari, £5 ; Coromandel Beach, 12s 6d and 13s 6d ; Waitemata, 9s 3d ; Pride of Tokatea, 5s 6d and 6s ; Caledonian, £l7, £l7 10s, £18; Tookey, £7 7s 6d and £7 10s ; Bismarck, £5 11s 6d ; Thames, £5 15s. Referring to the meeting at the Mechanics’ Institute, held in Auckland on Thursday evening, the Auckland Evening Star says :—“ In another column will be found a condensed report of the meeting last night in the Mechanics’ Institute. We regret that want of space prevents our giving a report in detail, but we would simply state that the reporis in our two morning contemporaries give most unfair accounts of (he proceedings. The Herald has been opposed to the movements of the reformers, and its reporter may be excused for endeavouring to make the reformers look ridiculous. The Cross has supported the movement, but its reporter there present had a feeling of personal and professional jealousy towards a journalist connected with the same paper who took the most prominent part in submitting the amendments of the reform party. From the time the meeting opened till it closed there was not one 4 scrimmage,’ as stated by the repoit in the Cross , and though 4 unqualified denial ’ was on one occasion given and received, the blackguard scene pictured in 4 one after the other got the lie direct,’ had only existence in the lying imagination of the writer. To see a member of the same staff carrying with him for hours one of the largest public meetings ever held in Auckland has evidently been galling, but tlfs should not have induced a desire to throw odium ou a cause which has been warmly and well supported by our contemporary.
