THE THAMES CHALLENGE.

A meeting of Volunteers was held in the Princes-street Drill-shed last evening, at which there was a fair attendance, Captain G. Johnstone in the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Thames Volunteers, which we published yesterday. The Chairman stated the object of the meeting, which was to receive the reply from the Thames. The first resolution was—“ That in the opinion of this meeting it would be very bad taste on the part of the Auckland Volunteers to challenge the Thames Volunteers to another match, after having been the victors on the two occasions on which the two districts have competed,” This resolution was carried with cheers. The next resolution was acknowledge the receipt of Secretary Robinson’s letter,” which was carried. The next resolution war—“ That in the event of the Thames Volunteers repeating their challenge, the present committee be empowered to do anything necessary in arranging and carrying out details for the matches, as if the Thames "Volunteers had received our acceptance of their previous challenge.” This was all the business, and the meeting separated, after a vote of thanks had been accorded to the chairman.— N.
