HIGHWAY BOARD ELECTIONS.

To tho Editor of tho THAMES Guardian. Sir, —I suppose that the candidates for election to the Highway Boards are very modest men, and therefore that it is not the custom for them to announce themselves until the day of the annual meeting. This, for the Waiotahi District, occurs on Tuesday next. There are live members to be elected, and about a dozen names are spoken of as men likely to come forward. The four favourites appear to be, but appearances are doubtful sometimes, Messrs Davies, Anthony, Robert Graham, and Hazard—who tne fifth is likely to be seems to be doubtful, supposing the four mentioned to be elected, but among those who are likely to be nominated I have heard the following mentioned : Messrs Smith (of the Pah Store), Burke, P. Griffin, Pye, Swan, Gudgeon, Mcßoberts, and Dowden. Gut of this number I should think an eligible five could be chosen, but I would ask my fellow ratepayers to see who is coining out before they are seduced by the wiles of the canvasser and proxy hunter, who are just now prowling about seeking whom the}' may devour. Hoping that the services which the present members of the Board have rendered for no pay, little thanks, much official snubbing, and some inconvenience, will not be forgotten, and that whoever comes out the best men may win, —I am, &c., A Ratepayer.
