The police intend to sue the Government for one month’s salary for every years’s service. The Waipori River is flooded for miles. The flood is so great that horses even are unable to stand. Skating is practised near Dunedin.
WELLINGTON. Wellington, Letters have been received here from Mr Hugh George, of the Melbourne “ Argus,” which are published in to-night’s “ Post,” stating that no arrangements whatever with Mr Vogel will exclude any papers. All journals must be placed on a fair footing. There is no contract made with respect to anything. HAWKES’ BAY. Napier.
A large meeting was held last night. There were between 500 and GOO present, to consider the repudiation of the Maori’s land tiansactions. A resolution was passed proposing the appointment of a commission to investigate questionable land sales and mortgages, in order to allay the excitement of the natives.
