RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

SECOND DAYS FIRING.. The Rifle tournament was continued yesterday, at Tararu, the first event of the day being the First Class Match, at 400 500, and 600 yards. For this there were no less than 40 competitors, and sonre excellent shooting took place, the top score being mode by Captain Murray with 47 points. This was excellent, as there was a heavy wind all day, and a great glare on the water from the sun. The following are the scores of those competing, those given in full being the winners of the prizes.—sth Match—First Class. Ranges —4OO, 500, and 600 yards ; second class targets; any position ; 5 shots at each range ; to he fired in squads arranged by lot—lst. 8 a.m. to 12 noon ; 2nd, 12 noon to 4 p.tn. Ist prize, £4 and gold pin ; 2nd, £2 and one pair of trousers ; 3rd, £1 and two bottles champagne ; 4th, 15s and 1001 b bag of flour; sth 10s and shirt studs; 6th ; ten gallons beer; 7th, box cigars and holder ; Bth, one meerschaum

About 2 p.in. was started the Special match, competitors to be members of the Association, who have competed in the All Comers’ Match. Ranges 500 and 600 yards; second-class targets ; position, any; small bores to allow 1 point per shot. Ist prize £2 and Sir Roger Tichhorne; 2nd, £1 and Coromandel scrip (Tookey). Highest aggregate score in above two matches to receive small bore match rifle, value £2O, presented by Mr J. W. Walker.

G. Partington, 17 ; Constable, 18 ; James Brown, 21 ; Hopkins, 25 ; Hoskins, 19 ; Carnie, 27 ; Capt. Rowe, 23 ; Mills, 21 ; Hazard, 23 ; Thompson, 12; McGonagle 11; Douglas, 25. The following competed at the first range, but retired before completing at the second :—Warren, C. Partington, Sharp, Cameron, McLeod, Schofield, Campbell, Hicks, Rae, Pearson, Haresnape, W. Rowe, jun., Gilpin, Bauer, Wooderson, Captain Lipspy, Stewart, Fitz Gerald, J. W. Walker, Cleary, Captain Williams, and Grant. This match decided the winner of the handsome rifle presented by Mr Walker, the highest aggregate success in the two matches being:—

To-day the first match will he the firstclass firing at 200, 500, and 600 yards, after which the 4th or second-class match will come off.
