CENTRAL ITALY MEETING.
To the Editor of the Thames Guardian. Sir, —I see by advertisement that a general meeting of shareholders of the Central Italy Gold Mining Company is called for the 28th instant, with the object (amongst other general business) of re-electing or otherwise the retiring director. Holding shares in the abovementioned company, I naturally feel some interest in its future prosperity. I cannot understand why the drive at the upper level was not commenced before, as it might have been many months ago. If the underlay of the Nonpareil reef is in the grouud, it would have been met with, and the claim by this time be paying dividends instead of pumping calls from shareholders’ pockets. I should like to have at least one practical man on the directory, so that shareholders would not be entirely at the mercy of the mine manager. X should state that I am not alone of thiss.opinion, but that numbers of shareholders think the same. I would impress upon all interested that there is not much uncalled up capital left to be frittered away. I believe that some of the present directors did their best, according to their light, but lacked the requisite mining knowledge to form an idea of the speediest and cheapest method of developing the resources of the mine.—l am, &c., Shareholder. Grahamstown, May 27* 1872.'
