SAFETY OF THE S.S. CITY OF MELBOURNE.
THE MACHINERY DAMAGED. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane have kindly placed at my disposal the following telegram received by them fiom Hokitika: — “ Hokitika, Monday, 3.36 p.m. “ The s.s. Rangitoto, from Melbourne, has just arrived. ‘‘ The City of Melbourne put back to Sydney with her machinery disabled.” Great satisfaction was expressed here on the news being made known.
