MINING STATISTICS.

(From the Australasian.') A RETURN to an order of the Legislative Assembly made on the motion of Mr T. Russell, containing seme interesting mining statistics, has been laid on the table of the House. It appears that the aggregate area in which sinking exceeds a depth of 100 feet in the Ballarat district is 32,948 acres, held under 8,241 miners’ rights; in Beechworth, 4,076 acres, held under 766 miners’ rights; in Sandhurst, 60 acres, held under 12 miners’ rights ; in Maryborough, 1,249 acres, held under 837 miners’ rights ; in Castlemaine, 562 acres, held under 266 miners’ rights ; in Ararat’ 63 acres, held under 297 miners’ rights; and in Gipps Land, 230 acres, held under six miners’ rights. The aggregate area in which the sinking is less then 100 feet is in Ballarat 2,427 acres, held under 4,143 miners’ rights ; in Beechworth, 7,509 acres, held under 3.876 miners’ rights ; in Castlemaine, 6,720 acres, held under 2,857 miners’ rights ; in Ararat, 314 acres, held under 1,462 miners’ rights ; and in Gipps’ Land, 6,291 acres, held under 1,482 miners’ rights. There are in Ballarat 385 quartz claims, of an aggregate area of 5,413 acres, held under 2,867 miners’ rights ; in Beechworth, 562 quartz claims, of the area of 1,370 acres, held under 815 miners’ rights ; in Sandhurst, 1,960 quartz claims, of the area of 7,006 acres, held under 7,095 miners’ rights; in Maryborough, 2,486 quartz claims, of 3,526 acres, held under 2,458 miners’ right; in Castlemaine, 707 quartz claims, of 4,430 acres, held under 2,600 miners’ rights; in Ararat, 398 quartz claims of 632 acres, held under 1,870 miners’ rights; and in Gipps Land, 86 quartz claims of 1,091 acres, held under 218 miners’ rights. The grand totals are : —Aggregate area in which sinking exceeds a depth of 100 ft, 39,190 acres, held under 10,425 miners’ rights ; aggregate area in which sinking is less than 100 ft., 25,989 acres, held under 2,849 miners’ rights ; and 6,584 quartz claims, of an aggregate area of 23,471 acres, held under 17,909 miner’ rights.
