APPLICATIONS TO REGISTER SIX NEW COMPANIES AT COROMANDEL. Auckland. 7 p.m. The adjourned meeting of those interested in forming a Freight Company was largely attended. It was resolved to form a company with a capital of £IO,OOO in £lO sharea. It. is expected that only half the capita] will he required to he called up. Calls to he devoted tn chartering firstclass ves3<;?R from London, where the business is to be conducted by a cnmpetent agent, under a hoard of London directors. At the outset the companj* to he co-operative and local, hut it is intended, when tested and found to succeed, to extend operations to all parts of the colony. A deputation of the Chamber of Commerce waited upon Mr Seed respecting drawbacks. It was recommended to refund duty paid in certain cases. The abolition of limitations as to l : me and places of export was also recommended. Mr Seed concurred, and said the Government was anxious to remove all trade restrictions consistent with the protection of the revenue. 7.53 p.m. The Gczetle to-day contains the boundaries, tolls, etc., of the Gralmmstown goods wharf. FI. J. Hill is appointed collector. George Wilson’s appointment as poundkeeper, at Shortland, is confirmed by the Superintendent. Applications are made to register s ; x new goldmining companies at Coromandel. THE WAIKATO. PROPOSALS TO MANUHIRT TO MEET THE DEFENCE MINISTER. (from our own correspondent.) Alexandra, 4 p.m. A native messenger has just arrived from Auckland, on his way to Te Kuiti, to ask Manuhiri if he will meet the Hon. D. McLean at Te Kopua. If Manuhiri replies in the affirmative, the Native Minister will come up, and, if afi things are satisfactory, he will telegraph for Governor Bowen.— Herald.
