CORRESPONDENCE. The following letter was read : Superintendent’s Office, Auckland, May 15, 1872. Sir, —According to your letter, dated the 19th February last, and the Goldfields Secretary’s reply thereto, of the 24th, I have the honour to inform you that, although the Municipal Police Act Amendment Act, 1871, has not been disallowed by his Excellency the Governor, yet the objections raised by the Attorney-General as to its validity are so grave as to preclude my bringing the Act into operation. The latter course would simply provide a large crop of litigation. I have the honour to be, sir, Your most obedient servant, T. B. Gillies, Superintendent. STREET CROSSINGS. It was resolved to call for tenders to see what crossings could be made for across Albert and Brown Streets, near the Bank of New Zealand and the Exchango Buildings, and also at other places where they were necessary. The Board resolved that they would give one-third of the money required for making such crossings, provided that the people in the neighbourhood would subscribe the balance of the money required. Mr Mcßoberts said that he felt'sure that the necessary funds could easily be raised.
