AVe understand that Mr Warden Keddcll did not arrive fiom Coromandel last evenin':, in which case there will be no Warden’s Court to-day. His Excellency the Governor has authorised Mr Henry Dunbar Johnson, of Oliiucmuri. to act as Interpreter under the Native Lands Act. AVe notice that the New Caledonia Hotel, Sboflaud, is to be sold this morning, by public auction, together with all the furniture, stock-in-tiade, &c., by Mr Gudgeon. The sale will, of course, take place on the premises. AVe call attention to the alteration which has been made in the time of the sailing of the p.s. Challenger. She will leave the GrahanisL;',vn Wharf to-day at 11.80 a.m., instead of 10 o'clock, as before advertised, returning at 5 p.m, instead of 4 o’clock. As will be seen by an advertisement elsewhere, Mr Barry O’Neil, the great cotnie vocalist, has arrived, and will opeu at the Theatre Loyal on Saturday uight. Mr O'Neil is accompanied by Harry Kelly, the Ethiopian comediau, Ben Claik, the tenor singer, and Professor Saunders, all of. whom are well known to fame both in this and other parts of the colony.

Some gentleman who purchased three summaries at our office yesterday posted them safely enough, but quite forgot to put any address on them at. all. They were, as a matter of course, returned to us last night. He will, very likely, be wondering at some future date how it was that the papers miscarried, and will, in all probability, blame the postal authorities.

We have received from Mr Samuels, of the Varieties, copies of the Town and Country Journal, of the 20th and 27th of April, arrived per .barque Leonidas. Mr Samuels will receive by the next boat the latest •Sydney papers, containing a full account of the Itandwick Autumn Meeting. We arc informed that Mr Morris, late bandmaster of the Rifle Volunteer Baud, has sued Mr Hagan and several others for £4B, alleged by him to be due for arrears of salary, aucLtbat the case will be heard at the K.M. Courff Shortland, ou Friday. This will not interfere with the re-formation of the band, all claims by Mr Morris against the present committee having been satisfactorily settled.

• The usual Wednesday evening parade of the Thames Scottish was held last night. After drill a meeting was held, at which it was resolved that the members of the company should give an entertainment in aid of the funds of the Hospital, at an early date. It was also resolved that the compauy should proceed to Auckland for the Queen’s Birthday Parade, if the other Volunteers would come forward in sufficient numbers to mako up the 200 required. There was a large attendance of the members of the company.

A meeting of Freemasons was held last evening at Mr Boyd’s Coromandel Hotel, at Coromandel, which was largely attended, and at which Mr. D. Graham presided. It was decided that the Lodge should be held at Boyd’s Hotel for the next six months. The following officers were then appointed : Worshipful Master, Jackson Keddell; Senior Warden, T. Kennau ; Junior Warden, Ingham Stevens ; Senior Deacon, J Cheshire; J uuior Deacou, F. O’Brien ; Secretary, It. Wyldc Browne ; Treasurer. Alexander Aitken ; Inner G uard, A. C. liaymes. Thirteen Master Masons signed the petition for the establishment of a Lodge of Instruction, which is to be forwarded at once.— Herald.

The matters in dispute in the case Moananui v. Lundon, which were referred to arbitration, were to have been entered upon yesterday morning a‘ the offices of Messrs Jackson and Russell, to whom the differences between the litigants had been left for their decision. The whole of the witnesses were present at the appointed hour, aud the arbitration opened, but only a few preliminaries were entered into, further proceedings in the case being adjourned until this morning at 10 o’clock. — Cross. There was quite an exciting scene at the Police Court, yesterday, in the case of Jane Crick, charged with stealing money ±rom the person of John Harris. As the case tried was proceeding, Mr Dodd objected to some statement being introduced as evidence , and, on the Bench intimating that they would nevertheless hear it, the learned gentleman seized his hat, and walked quick y out of Court. Upon this, Mrs Crick cried out, -‘Oh, stay, Mr Dodd, and don’t leave me at the mercy of these two villains,” meaning, we presume, the magistrates, ‘’ Messrs Goldsmith and Lawlor. Their Worships told her to remember where she was, and not to repeat such language. The case was then proceeded with. Mr Dodd returned, and the Bench told him he would he acting very unfairly to his client if he left her. The learned counsel cross-examined the witnesses for the prosecution, Put made no defence, aud called no wiinesses. The woman was convicted, and sentenced to three months’ hard labour. Hubert Easter, landlord of the Ancient Briton Hotel, was fined one shilling and costs for not giving immediate entry to the police, who demanded admission into his licensed house.' on the night of the 7th instant, at half-past twelve. Mr Tyler, who appeared for defendant, said he should appeal. The Coromandel Mail says that a sad accident occurred on Sunday evening to a man named George Mason, which tends more than anything which has lately happened on this gnldfiebl to prove the absolute necessity of at once providing hospital accommodation. The unfor;unate man had been engaged to wovk for the Bismarck Gold Mining Company, and while walking in the vicinity of the Tokatea Saddle, had the misfortune to slip down a steep bank a distance of nine or ten feet, breaking his left leg above the ankle, and injuring the other. Dr Payne was sent for, and set the bone, and the sufferer was carried into town on a stretcher by a number of his mates, and taken to Joues’ Hotel, where he now lies. On Satuiday, May 11, the usual fortnightly parade took place in the Government Paddock, and was weil attended ; and afterwards meeting of the company was held in Fraser’s sto :- e. Captain Noins presidi g, to decide about, the disposal of £lO, contributed by the P'.ovinc'al Government. It was arranged that this money should be fired for in separate piizes, on May 24, Queen’s Birthday, when Lieutenant Samuel’s munificent gift of a silver cup will also be contended for. —Correspondent.
