(from our own correspondent.) THE SCHOONER ARGO—FEARS FOR HER SAFETY. MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS. THE VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT ON QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY. THE NATIVE LANDS COURT.—COROMANDEL FORESHORE. SIIAREMARKET. Auckland, Wednesday, 7.35 p.tn. A preliminary meeting of the shareholders of the Specimen Hill G.M. Co., Coromandel, was held to-day at the Waverley Hotel. It was carried that the company should be formed, and consist of 7,000 shares of 20s each, 10s to be consider&rPpaid up, 1,000 shares to be held for tin* benefit of the company. Provisional directors were appointed. Should the Thames Volunteers decide to come to Auckland on the Queen’s Birthday, a somewhat elaborate programme will be carried tlircugli. It. lias been arranged to hold a sham fight on the Epsom course and One Tree Hill. Rifle pits are to be dug, and covered trenches, and other defensive works to be taken possession of by the Thames Volunteers. When secured, Major Gordon is to march from Auckland with attacking forces. The troops from Wainku, Howiek, and Otalmiiu have agreed to come in. It is to be hoped the Thames men will decide to come up. Fears are entertained for the safety of the schooner Argo, Captain Saze, which left your port for Russell, on April 27. Nothing lias since been heard of her. Portions of a cabin, with a clock attached, have been found on the Paikiri beach, Cheat Barrier. The day after the Argo left, a heavy gale sprung up, and it is feared that she has been blown ashore at or near the place where the piece of cabin lias been found. Last advices from Russel make no mention of her. The s.s. City of Melbourne is due here from Sydney to-night, or early to-morrow morning. She will, in all probability, be the bearer of the Auckland portion of the Suez mail. The Native Lauds Court sat again today to consider the claims to the Coromandel foreshore. On the first case being called, Mr MacCormick (for the Crown) produced a proclamation of the Government’s, dated May 14, and issued under the 4th section of the Native Lands Act, 18G7, defining all that portion of the Province situated below high-water mark to be a district under that section ; also suspending the operations of the Native Lands Act within that district. The effect of the proclamation will be to place these cases without the jurisdiction of the the Court. Mr MacConnack said that he had been instructed to state that the Government had thought it necessary for the public good to suspend the hearing of these claims to the foreshore for a time. We believe this action has been taken preparatory to a bill being introduced into the General Assembly with reference to all claims to the foreshore. This was the onb business of interest. Mr. P. Herepatli’s design for the new Hospital has been approved of. The value of the- cargo of the barque Chattanooga for New York is £13,005. There has been a slight activity in the market to day. Bistnareks sold at £4 12s 6d and £4 15s; Caledonians, £l9 15s; Working Miners, 10s and 10s 6d, afterwards receding. Enquiries for Green Harps, sold at £7 ; All Nations, £3 10s ; Golden Pah, £1 5s ; Buffalo, 9s. Enquiiy for Bistnareks, Green Harps, and Italians at low prices.
