MINING.

Multum in Pauvo. —The result of the crushing for this company is not quite so good as was expected, the amalgam not turning out very well. It is, however, good, being one hundred and sixty-eight ounces six pennyweights of melted gold, from sixty-five tons put through. Work in the mine is going on well. The low level tunnel is in over one hundred feet, and the country is still hard, but good progress is being made. Waiotaiii Tribute.— The result of the crushing of twenty-five tons ef stone for this tribute is twenty-four ounces sixteen pennyweights of melted gold, or very nearly an ounce to the ton. Point Russell. —The result of the crushing of forty tons of stone, which has taken place at the Kuranui Battery, is about what was expected, it being twentytwo ounces ten pennyweights, or just over halt an ounce to the ton. North Star. —The low level tunnel has penetrated the hard bar of country through which it has been going for some time, and is now in fair working ground. The tributers who arc working the ground expect to get the reef in ten days or a fortnight, as they can now drive ten or twelve feet a week, whereas four or five was all that could be done in the hard ground. The tributers have now been at work for upwards of fifteen weeks at this tunnel, which was partly driven before they took up the ground, but when they reach the reef there is every reason to believe that they will be well rewarded for their labour, as former prospects from the lode where sunk upon were very good indeed, crushings going as much as two ounces and a quarter to the ton. Californian. —The tribut ers have picked up the lode on the low level, after looking for it for some time. It had been traced to within twenty feet of this level from above, where it became greatly disordered, and broke up into a lot of small veins, but now it has been found again, and is five feet wide, and good prospects can be seen iu it. They have followed it for about twenty feet, and are still driving ahead. They have started crushing again with twenty-five head of stampers, so that more good returns may be looked for. Central Italy. —The damage which occurred to the poppet-heads through the landslip has been all repaired. They cut into the solid ground and built up a good foundation with timber, so that everything is now properly secured and safe. Work below has been resumed, and will be carried on vigorously. Caledonian. —Quartz is being brought to the surface in good quantities, and crushing will probably be resumed on Thursday. They are enlarging the platform behind the stamper boxes, so as to allow of at least a week’s supply of stone being always on hand. Alburnia.—Thv A’bmnia Battery was started to work yesterday in full force, and the manager calculates that he will be able to keep it going continuously, so that returns may he looked for soon. Cure. —Owing to a slight accidentto the turbine wheel at Grown arid Campbell’s Battery, Taram, the crushing for this company was not started on Monday ; but last night a start was made. Durham Ox. —We yesterday reported that work had been started in the lowlevel tunnel of this company’s ground, and we are informed that there are indications of the near presence of a lode, the contractors having struck water in good quantities. A meeting was held last night, at which it was resolved to allot the forfeited shfires to the present shareholders, at the rate of one for every three held by them, upon the payment of Is 3d per share.
