VOLUNTEERING.

RE-FORMATION OF THE BAND. We are glad to be in a position to state that, after all the various attempts to reconstruct the band, the last trial has proved successful, inasmuch as the band committee will meet this evening for the purpose of considering the best method of managing the affairs of the band in future, and also for its maintenance. Through the generosity of an officer, who advanced the balance of the money required, the affair has assumed this very favourable aspect, and we consider his conduct commendable in the extreme. By this turn of affairs we are promised a band for the Queen’s birthday, for the review or sham fight. Whether the old band is re-formed or an entirely new one got up, we feel convinced that it will be a good one. In the ranks of the various companies are to be found old bandsmen of the Imperial service, and, with such an amount of available talent, not much difficulty will be experienced in getting musicians. We believe the committee which is to be appointed by the different corps will consist of one officer and two members from the ranks of each company; but this and other matters will be for afterthought, and until after the meeting, this evening, we cannot say exactly how the future management &c., will be conducted. Perhaps the idea of each company —of which there are sis. forming the Rifle Brigade—subscribing £1 per month from their funds for the maintenance of the band would be a very sure and reliable source of “raising the wind,” —at any rate, much more substantial than the hitherto preposterous extortions from some of the officers. PARADES. The Thames Rifle Rangers Cadet Corps,. Hon. Captain C. A. Robertson, were drilled last evening at their usual places of rendezvous. Next Thursday the Rifle Brigade will be drilled in the battalion evolutions on the beach (weather permitting) for the Queen’s Birthday gathering.
