Christchurch.— The Prcgx of the 20tli reports : —Town trade continues steady, with a fair country demand for leading staples. The Harvest Home sailed on the 10th, with a full cargo, pincipally of wool. In the grain market business lias been very quiet, and a few sales of wheat have come under our notice, The advices by the San Francisco mail and private telegraphic information by the Suez mail just in, agree in noting an easier market, and as this will no doubt check shipments from Adelaide, we must be prepared to hear of lower prices ruling in the Australian colonies. Sales of wheat are reported at 4s Id to 4s 3d, but very little is offering, otherwise these figures would uot be sustained. Flour is very linn,
and the leading millers readily obtain fill per ton net eash for 2001 b. sacks. . 'Barley is moving slowly at 4s to 4s 3d, or even 4s 6d for extra. Only very small parcels offer, as the bulk of the farmers have sold. Oats continue in slow demand at Is Oil, to Is lOd for superior milling, at Is 8d for ordinary feed. In provisions, a good enquiry' exists for hams and bacon, but the market is quite bare, and the new cures will not be ready until the latter end of the month. A good feeling may still be noted for prime cheese at 4d to 4}d. Butter is in somewhat better supply, at 7d to 7Jd for picked parcels. Oamaru, —The Times, of the 16th, reports —The roads having been rendered almost impassable in some districts by the recent wet weather, the delivery of grain has been checked. There are large stocks, however, on hand iu town, and no advance in price may be expected for the preseut, owing to the full supply available. Prices rule as last quoted, viz.: —Wheat, 4s net cash, for best milling ; inferior in proportion. Oats, short, Is Sd To Is lOd ; feeding, Is 6d to Is Bd, demand slack. Barley, 3s lodto4sin demand. Flour, LI 1 10s to Ll2 10s. Oatmeal, Ll 3. Pollard, L 4. Bran, L 3. Potatoes, L 5 (nominal).
