ACCIDENT.
An accident, which providentially was ru t attended with very serious consequences happened on Saturday to a miner named .James Peterson, who was working in the Inverness mine. He was hoisting a bucket of quartz from the winze, aud winding very quickly, when the bucket caught a projecting piece of timber and jerked the handle of the windlass out of his hands. He, in trying to stop the bucket from going down, another man being working at the bottom of the winze at the time, received a blow just over the temple from the handle/which inflicted a nasty wound, about an inch long. The second turn of the handle he received on his shoulder, and so managed to hold the bucket. It is a great mercy that his collar bono was not broken by it. Ilis head was dressed, and he walked home all right afterwards. This, we understand, is the third accident that Peterson has had since he has been working in the Kuranui Hill, ho having had one of his toes smashed, and a quantity of dirt (nearly a ton weight) having fallen on him without injuring him seriously. We are glad to be able to state that he will not be laid up for any length of time through his present accident.
