COROMANDEL.
The Green Harp has sufficiently tested the reef in the shaft, and does not intend sinking farther for the present. The stone last taken out, fully keeps up the character of this leader, and a piece of stone taken at random from a bucketfull just brought lo light, turned out a specimen.
'The Golconda, as far as ifs interior workings are concerned, is still a terra incognita The only thing patent is the fact that a tunnel was commenced on Thursday last, at the extreme boundary, next the Royal Charlie, and which is said to be cut for the purpose of conveying the quartz from the workings direct to the new battery. All the available ground in the neigh bonrhood of the Court-house Greek is being rapidly taken up, and the prospects of the locality continue excellent. The management of the Buffalo claim has been entrusted to Mr William Kelly. This company has opened out the leader in both directions with a good show, and the leader promises to increase in size as it goes downward. Towards the Courthouse Creek Company’s ground, from which the Buffalo workings are distant about 150 feet, the leader has decn driven in about eight feet, and towards the Ballynock ground about seven feet. In both directions the leader is perfectly unbroken, with good walls. The Government have given instructions for the construction of a road from the claims in this locality to the main road. The last claim pegged out has been one which includes the Court House and ground in the vicinity. It was taken up yesterday morning, and some little excitement caused amongst the Government officials thereby, as it includes the gardens they have been cultivating. The Lucky Diggers hit a good looking reef in the drive through the Green I’lag ground on Wednesday night. The stone is firm and heavy, being a streaky mixture of quartz ana sandstone. When crushed the colour was perceptible, but very pale and fine. The ica-t is running into the ground of the company, and towards the Fride of Caledonia.
The Flower of the Hill Company, Tiki, is now following a leader of pioved richness. The reef is one foot in thickness, and daily yields specimens. The company intend putting in a lower level, and and when the reef, which is now traced 300 yards on the surface, is cut on that level, a brilliant result is expected. The satisfactory return fiotn the last crushing has brought this district into notice, and the surrounding ground has been taken up. The Lynch’s Flat Battery has been retarded in its progress by tlje non-arrival of the cylinder and other portions of the machinery, which should have arrived a week ago; still the contractor expects that it will be in working order by the first week in May. The New Zealand Company’s Beach Battery is also rapidly progressing.— Mail.
