THE GOVERNOR’S TRIP.
Up to a late hour last night no further intelligence was to hand respecting the movements of the Luna or his Excellency the Governor. The last news stated that the steamer was stuck somewhere about Hikutaia; but we have not yet heard whether she managed to get off or not. The weather during the past week will have rendered his Excellency’s ride across the country anything but a pleasant one, know’ing, as we do, the nature of the creeks on the road over, and the great rapidity with which they rise after a few hours rain. Should the steamer come down with the morning’s tide we expect that she will stand right awayjtor Auckland without stopping, as his Excellency has already been delayed much longer than he thought of, and no doubt Mr McLean will he anxious to meet the Hon. Mr Vogel, who has arrived by the Hero.
