NEW STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY. AUCKLAND. April 21, 5.30 p.m. The s.s. * Hero,’ Captain Logan, arrived in harbour this morning. She brings a large cargo and a number of passengers, amongst whom is the Hon. Mr Vogel. The ‘ Nevada ’ sailed to-day.
SYDNEY. April 15, 6 p.m. A brutal outrage took place at Avoca ; a German attempted to murder a girl because she refused to accept his addresses. NEW MARYBOROUGH. April 15. States, a wealthy farmer, gave a young girl £3,000 (?) to murder an illegitimate child, or to procure an abortion. A new steam navigation company, called the South Pacific, has been launched for the purpose of buying Messrs. M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s steamers for the Pacific service. The Colonial Bank has declared a dividend of 8 per cent. —♦
