MINING.

Vale of Avoca. —The crushing of ninety tons of stone for the Vale of Avoca tributers was completed at Weston’s Battery on Tuesday, and the result, which was nineteen ounces, was banked yesterday. El Dorado.—The tributers have Weston’s Battery now employed reducing a two hundred'ton lot, which may be expected, together with the picked stone, to give a good return. Prince Imperial. —The crushing which has been going on at the Waiotahi Battery will be completed to-day, and an average yield is expected. Sons of Freedom. —This company will have a retorting to-day, and a good return will be to hand. They have reduced a fine parcel of picked stone, and the whole of the gold will be sent in together. Bed 'Ween. — Some more specimens were taken out of the small lode yesterday, and the stone is looking well. Caledonian.— The trial crushing from the No. 2 reef is shaping much better than was expected at first, and a return of between twelve and fifteen pennyweights is looked for. Crry of Dunedin. —A meeting of the Directors of this company was held .yesterday afternoon at the Company’s office, when the tender of Messrs Edwards and Cameron was accepted for working the mine on tribute, and they will commence work at once. Poverty Tribute Company— The Directors met at the Company’s office yesterdav afternoon. The legal manager was instructed to settle all outstanding accounts at once. The company's balancesheet shows a Cr. balance after all liabilities are settled. The legal manager tendered his resignation, which was accepted. Bird-in-lland. —The mine manager reports that the contractors for the air-shaft are getting on very well. They expect to be down to the level of the main drive in about a fortnight. The sinking is very good after getting through surface boulders. The manager is continuing the main drive on the leader at same time, and ex-

pvets to be under the air shaft in a few days, lie does not purpose breaking down stone until the connection is made with the air shaft, as the air at present is not sufficiently good to allow of the full complimeut of men working below.
