LOCAL INDUSTRIES.
The tenders for the erection of the large saw-mill at Shorthand have been accepted, and the works will very shortly be commenced by Mr Bignall, the contractor. The machinery is being manufactured by Messrs Price and Co., of Grahamstown, and the engine is in the hands of Messrs Fraser and Tinne, of Auckland, so that the whole thing may be considered a thoroughly local piece of work. It is the intention of the proprietors to have their booms fixed up at Parawai, where there is au excellent place for a depot for the logs, and the navigation of the river will not be in tlie least degree interfered with, as boats cannot get any higher up then just past, tin* bathing place. The creek is most admirably suited for bringing timber down
and as there is an enormous supply of the finest of kauri trees in the bush owned by the proprietors, everything seems in favor of the enterprise, to which we most heartily wish a prosperous future. Tenders are about to be accepted for the supply in logs of 10,000,000 feet of timber for the supply of the mill.
