VOLUNTEERING.

The Scottish Corps had recruit drill for the junior members of the company at the Thames School, last evening, through the company not mustering very well, —no doubt on account of the inclemency of th« weather.

ROYALS—FINANCE MEETING. A meeting of the Finance Committee of the Royal Company was held last evening. The financial report of the secretary for the last quarter showed that the company was in a very healthy condition in a monetary point of view. The balance in hand was £ls, from which will have to he deducted some small amounts for accounts not yet sent in, and also some capitation money due to a few of the members. The secretary will lay the report before a meeting of the company to be held next Thursday evening, after parade. To the above balance may he added about £lO, due as monthly fees from the ,’ario.is members, thus closing the financial year of the company very satisfactorily indeed. It is the intention of the Royals to endeavour to make the members’ fees pass the expenses incurred during the next financial year, and carry the capitation allowance of this year—some £so—on to the next, for the purpose of getting a neater uniform, that may show off with more eclat than the present one in wear.

The Engineer Cadet Corps assembled at tlie Volunteer Hall last evening for drill. Sergeant-Major Grant put the company through the platoon evolutions, in which the young soldiers are very perfect. Wo are rather inclined to think that this company is somewhat behind-hand some where, perhaps through the want of better officering, or probably it is owing to the fact that none of the officers of the company to which the corps is attached take much interest in their welfare.

The Engineer Corps will assemble at the Government Buildings, Grahamstown, this evening, for instruction drill by Captain Goldsmith. The uniform to be adopted by this company will consist of a fine scarlet cloth tunic, with black braid for knots, blue cloth trousers with a scarlet stripe, and a blue forage cap with scarlet band, —a very appropriate unifonn, we should imagine. The T.R.R. Cadet Corps will assemble nt the Thames School this afternoon, and on every future Saturday and Wednesday afternoons at the same place, when lion. Captain C. A. Robertson will drill the corps. The bon. captain has had to change the time for drill, owing to his receiving no assistance whatever from the Government in instructing the company in drill, and we think great praise is due to this gentleman for the manner in which lie has brought this company to its present state of efficiency entirely by himself.
