We learn that that indefatigable Government officer. Colonel Gorton, Ilrauder in ordinary for the Colony of New Zealand, was quite as successful iti destroying furniture and “ office fixings” at the Thames as he was in Auckland. His great forte appears to he in smashing ivory pen-cnttcrs/and this he has done during his present visit with such signal success that we understand a requisition is at once to be sent in for a new supply of those very necessary office implements for the Custom-houses in Auckland aud Grahamstown. both of which seem to have felt the weight of his displeasure to a more than ordinary degree.— Herald,
