COURTS.
POLICE COURT.— Yesterday. Before W. Fkaser, Esq., R.M. Drunkenness. —Michael Carroll, for bail for non-appearance on a charge of drunkenness, which was forfeited. Martin Burke was also charged with being drunk and incapable on Sunday morning, at Grahamstown. Mr Macdonald appeared for'the'defence, and called James Sims, who deposed that lie saw the police taking Carroll into charge on Sunday morning, at 2.30, and Burke was-with Carroll at the time. Carroll was making a noise, and Burke was endeavouring to take aim homo. Burke did not make much noise. He wanted to go bail for Carroll. Burke was taken in charge at the Police-office. Witness stated that he was in the European Hotel at 2 o’clock on Sunday morning seeing billiards played. Only saw Burke take two glasses of drink the whole evening. Fined 20s and costs, or 48 hours’ imprisonment. Ilis Worship said lie hoped the police would keep a good look out for those public-houses that were open at such an hour in the morning.
